The monastery church of Maria Laach’s Benedictine Abbey was founded in the 11th century under the reign of count palatine Heinrich II. Today it is recognized as an icon of romanesque architecture.

The research of the Chair for Architectural History at the RWTH Aachen University examined the connection between the buildings’ process, its proportions, and the system of measurements. For this the church was to be exactly cartographed to the smallest detail.
